Somewhat recovered from the back stuff and we were able to enjoy our grandkids this last weekend. The weather was (again) warmer than expected, so we were able to swim. Grason is getting pretty brave now … jumping in (with his floatie) and “cruising the pool” in his attempt to keep up with McKenna. Brian and Lynn golfed on Saturday morning … it’s been years since they have been able to do that. We are so glad to learn that they will be moving to Oak Harbor (on Whidbey Island) at the very end of June. He currently commutes 3 hours per day to where they now live in Arlington. Where they will live in Oak Harbor is 5 minutes from the base. He will be able to spend much more daily time with his family, and resume his progress towards a college degree.
On Sunday, we and the kids went to church at Christ the King in Bellingham. Their worship team (with instruments) were casually dressed … with the lead wearing shorts and flip-flops. We are seeing this more and more when we worship elsewhere. The 25-minute sermon was delivered by their marriage and family Associate Pastor; it was very compelling (mostly because he shared some personal testimonies that related directly to his message). Their current series is on marriage and family: “Cleaver VS. Simpson: Busting the Myth of the Perfect Family.” They are using 252 for their Children’s Ministries … the kids loved it, and talked about what they had learned regarding patience and “waiting.” This is particularly hard for McKenna! But we always miss not having communion and our ears long for a-capella music .. not to mention our church family back home.
We start home tomorrow (Wednesday) and should be home late on Thursday. We will leave to come back to Fresno on Thursday, June 5. Looking forward to seeing everyone, and joining the Cowger’s and my mother for an evening at Roger Rocka’s to see Tami and Kindle perform in “Annie Get Your Gun.” There’s a great review on Fresnobeehive.com (scroll down to see it and some great pics). Thanks, Terry, for the link!
