Last week, we enjoyed visiting our friends John and Doris Burge in Gig Harbor. While Lynn and John golfed, Doris and I caught up on our personal news and then went to the Glass Museum in Tacoma. Lino Tagliapietra, a world-renowned Italian glass blower that in the 1970’s changed the art of glass blowing in America, happened to be there for a few days. We watched him create a piece in the “hot room.” There is an exhibition there until August 28. I will never look at a blown glass piece again without thinking of his work, and comparing it with any other pieces that I see (many of which will fall short). John and Doris both served in the military … John retired as a Lt. Colonel and Doris as a Master Sergeant. The very militaristic and outspoken right-wing conservative John was a member of a rock band at a very young age called the Hamilton Streetcar. They did a tour with the Doors and Sunshine Company back in 1968. Now he plays the keyboard at his church whenever called to do so.
We had the kids for 2 days and celebrated Father’s Day today …. it was great, and we are pooped! We’re helping them move from Arlington to Oak Harbor next week… but first, we will celebrate our anniversary by going to Lummi Island. Never been there, so we will see!
