Back in Washington: An Update

We drove back to Fresno on May 30, primarily to attend our niece Melissa’s high school graduation on June 4. (Melissa is the daughter of my brother Jeff). It was a whirlwind visit! We left early the morning of June 5, to be back on June 7 for a family barbeque here to celebrate McKenna and Grason’s birthday. It was good seeing everyone. My mother is struggling with loneliness these days, and in some respects isn’t doing as well as she was earlier (at least from my vantage point). Lynn’s mother is more accepting of us being here, probably because of her dementia!

Last weekend we did have our family barbeque, and the kids celebrated their birthdays with us, their parents Brian and Kristy, and other grandparents Georgia and Alan Oster. Our gallery says it all! The kids decorated their own birthday cakes … that was a hit! Try it some time!

The weather here this week has been cold and very rainy. We don’t mind … (we rather like it) … but we’re finding that the northwesterners don’t share our sentiments. They endure the cold, wind, rain and lots of gray weather 10 months of the year, so that they can enjoy the sparkling, clear, clean, and glorious weather that occurs for 2 months. They do NOT want to be deprived of that time! So they are quite cranky right now … they are ready for the summer weather to commence. Fortunately it was nice for the family barbeque. But we already know there is no predicting the weather up here!

Tomorrow we leave for Gig Harbor where we are spending a few days with our friends John and Doris Burge. John worked with me and with Lynn at Fresno State. They relocated from Shaver Lake to be closer to one of John’s daughters, who lives nearby (this sounds familiar)! Then on our way back, we pick up the grandkids for the weekend! We will celebrate Father’s Day with them, Brian and Kristy.

Today was my stepfather’s birthday. You recall that he passed away last January. Several donations in his name were received by the Order of the Purple Heart. This paid for a large flat-screen TV to be placed (with a plaque honoring him) in a waiting room at the Veterans’ Hospital in Fresno. There was a small ceremony today … my mother attended, along with my sister, brother, sister in law, and niece Meredith. It was ironic that the ceremony was on his birthday. . . . Robin

We enjoyed the latest blog and are glad you are enjoying the weather and your grandchildren. We are taking Trace and his children to Universal Studios tomorrow and Monday for Father’s Day. Tacy is doing very well but still needs prayers so one tube can be removed. Also, prayers for their family in general. Somehow we missed the donation thing, so let us know where to send a donation. Mae
